CH Jones - Fuel Management
As soon as it went live, the smart card driven solution that ACT developed under contract to CH Jones was awarded with industry recognition. The OASIS (Open Application Smartcard Information System) smart card solution enabled the pioneering integrated fuel management provider to upgrade their services across hundreds of sites and thousands of vehicles within the UK.
ACT modernised the CH Jones network of terminals, through smart-enabling them and therefore fulfilling CH Jones' primary objective of increasing security by minimising the potential for fraud. The modernisation also provides a more comprehensive and accurate management information solution for CH Jones clients through increased reliability of data.
ACT designed, built and delivered the infrastructure needed to provide the state-of-the art smart card driven fuel management system, including the integration of their existing fuel pump and position of sale infrastructure. At the heart of ACT’s development project was the design and development of an innovative card business rules system, enabling CH Jones to provide extensive management services for its clients.
The scheme not only offers simplicity of use for drivers, but also enhances information security for operators, manages pump security and usage for site operators. The smart cards function as an electronic pass-key to each pump, automatically providing the vehicle registration and other details of the card holder and unlocking it for use by the driver.
CH Jones was presented with a national award for innovation and technology from the Institute of Transport Management (ITM) in 2002. The award, made in recognition of the new smart fuel card, considered not only the technology itself, but also the beneficial impact on the transport industry in general.
